Speed Dating in Downtown Hillsboro is a social event designed to offer quick, face-to-face interactions between singles. Rotate through brief, timed dates, getting the chance to engage with multiple potential matches in a fun and efficient way. When the event ends, we will facilitate the connection between matches and the rest is up to you. Light snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
We will have different events for all, so keep your eye on the community calendar for LGBTQ, Senior, Friends only, and more.
Simply show up at the venue, grab a scorecard, get comfortable, and wait for the rest of the group to arrive. Our hosts will set you up with your first date and help you with of conversation prompts. After a short period, you will move on to your next date. You will cycle through up to twelve total matches and then turn in your scorecard to one of the hosts. If there is a mutual match, we will connect you after the event! There will be time before and after the event to mingle and continue conversations and connections.
Q: What is the refund policy?
A: Last minute cancellations impact every participant and make it hard to find other singles to fill your spot. For this reason, please notify us at least one week (seven days) before the event you are registered for to receive a full refund. If you miss the window, we will only be able to provide a partial refund (50%). Tickets are transferable to someone in the same demographic. Eventbrite's processing fee is nonrefundable.
Q: How long does an event last?
A: Speed Dating in Downtown Hillsboro events are scheduled to last two hours (6:30-8:30 pm), with doors opening 30 minutes before the event (6:00 pm).
Q: How do I know there will be a good turn out?
A: In the case that registration doesn't meet our minimums and we can’t offer a quality experience, we’ll cancel the event at least 48 hours in advance and provide a full refund. Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable.
Q: How long will I have to talk to each date?
A: Dates will last about eight minutes, giving you enough time to dig a little deeper, past the prompts we give you to get the conversation started.
Q: Does HDP offer dating feedback, advice, or matchmaking services?
A: We do not offer matchmaking services or dating advice, but we are working on curating some resources for you to refer to on our website!
Q: Are you partnered with your venues?
A: Any events held outside of The Downtown Hive are in partnership with local venues and businesses. While we appreciate their partnership, HDP staff will be in charge of actually running the event.
Q: What happens if there is an uneven ratio of participants?
A: We will implement break rounds. It’s a short time slot to grab an extra drink, use the bathroom or just catch your breath. Think of it as an intermission!
Q: I wasn’t able to get a match.
A: It happens! While we can't always guarantee you'll meet the "One", the goal is really just to meet people offline and make connections whether or not they end up being romantic.
Q: When will I get my match results?
A: You will be notified of any mutual matches within 24 hours of the event.
Q: Will I know who wanted to match with me even if I didn't match with them?
A: In order to respect our participants' privacy, we will only share information if the match is mutual.
Q: Will there be breaks?
A: Yes! You’ll have a couple minutes between each date to rotate to your next date, as well as a short intermission breather for everyone mid event.
Q: What if I don’t drink?
A: We will always provide free water and other non-alcoholic options for purchase.
Q: Can I match as a friend?
A: We want to ensure everyone's intentions are clear and there's no confusion on what a ‘match’ means, so watch for friend-focused events on our schedule in the future if that is your goal.
Q: What if I am on a date with someone I don’t find attractive?
A: You’re not going to fall in love with every date, and this is a normal part of dating. Lean into the icebreaker prompts and simply enjoy a friendly conversation connecting with a new person. Be kind and respectful.
Q: What should I wear?
A: This is a casual event and we encourage you to be yourself and wear whatever makes you feel your best. No expectations.
